There were definitely a couple plot holes that nag at me, but overall it was a very enjoyable and easy read

Loved this book! Right from the start, I adored it, and I was devastated when it was over because I would gladly have spent much more time in the world of Bernadette, her extraordinary daughter, her genius husband, and the denizens of Seattle. Hilarious and smart and captivating. The audio book is brilliantly done by character actor Kathleen Wilhoite (you may know her from her stints on "ER" and "Gilmore Girls") and I highly recommend experiencing the book that way.

Maybe it was just the wrong time in my life to read this, but I kept putting it down and coming back to it over the course of a few months. Bernadette and the story in general stressed me out!

I ultimately enjoyed this one but it was a very slow build and I didn’t get into it until about halfway through.

One of the rare instances were a book gets better the more I read it. My perception of the kind of book it would be changed many times, with the tone and maturity gradually getting more serious, less cynical. I loved the character arcs and the change experienced in Audrey. There were few, if any, instances where I rolled my eyes in disbelief. This is a genuinely lovable and original story.

I know some of my fellow Seattle area citizens took issue with this book, but they are missing two important things: 1. A sense of humor, and 2. An understanding of character development. From the Subaru parents to the 8-step downtown parking process, this book had me stitches. But the humor here is the hook for what comes next. Maria Semple deftly travels from satire to believable internal journeys for these characters, even if the plot arc itself jumps an iceberg or two.
