The journey of this book is a good one. The characters and their relationships are perfectly flawed. There are scenarios that make you physically cringe and others that make you well up a little. Semple has an unexpected way with words.

That being said, toward the end it was kind of like having to sneeze really bad but then it goes away. For how wacky the rest of the book was, the ending was, to my dismay, surprisingly mundane and abrupt. It also left a lot of loose ends. What happened to Soo-Lin? WHAT HAPPENED TO SOO-LIN?!?!

I'd call it a fun beach read, but don't get too invested.

I really enjoyed Where'd You Go, Bernadette? Bernadette is a fascinating, maddening, perhaps mad mother; the book is narrated by her aggrieved daughter, who is trying to figure out where mom has gone; the plot is full of wildly unlikely occurrences that Semple pulls off very well; the writing is fun, the ending is satisfying. A great, "I want to read something good but not something I have to get all serious about" book.

This was a good book. Kept me entertained. It was a quick read. There were a few parts where the details got into the weeds, but I just glossed over those parts. I didn't like the morality of the Dad and his assistant. She practically forced herself on him when he was hurting and weak. I really related to the Dad working at Microsoft. I don't like how the book abruptly ended. I wanted to know what happened after they got back from the cruise. Did the assistant still have the baby? Did he buy her a house and then go live in a different one with Mom and Bee? That situation was messed up and I'd like to see how it got resolved. Maybe an epilogue would have been nice.

Sweet book - took a little bit to get into for me though. Slow moving plot I thought.

Loved this story of family! My only complaint is that the kids seemed awfully young for 8th grade...Bee was a cute, quirky narrator and I liked that this was an epistolary novel! I wish pictures and maps and things could’ve been included...it was hard to picture everything in my head.

This should not be read on a kindle. I am not sure I can express how I feel about this book. I will come back and update this later.
