Yawn. The best way to sum this one up is that I had no problem putting it down (which I did repeatedly, including at 10 pages after the beginning, 20 pages from the end, 5 pages from the end, you get the idea). None of the joy of RP1 and waaaay toooo much self-indulgent over-narration and explanation of various pop culture moments.

I honestly thought I was going to hate this. Sequels tend to be terrible, and this had really bad reviews everywhere I looked. I didn’t think it was horrible, but it definitely had some problems. Just felt kind of rushed and thrown together. I feel like even Cline is good enough of a writer to have made this better. He had an idea I liked, but he just didn’t quite get it down on paper. It’s odd- felt like he was trying too hard but also not trying hard enough.

Totally binge worthy! I was so excited for this sequel and Ernest Cline did not disappoint. I "plugged into" this book and could not put it down all week. This story is incredible and kept me turning pages all week. The best part of this continuation (aside from the killer plot and deep cuts of 80's pop culture) is how Cline deepened his characters. Halliday, Og, Aech, Parcival, Art3mis, and the rest of the High Five are way more complicated than before now that we are in a post-Halliday-Easter Egg Hunt world. I am so happy that this was the last book I read in 2020. What a perfect way to end a crazy year...in the OASIS!

If you loved Ready Player One, you are going to obsess over this book.

All the conflict was *immediately* or *nearly immediately* resolved at every turn of the book, and at the end it seemed like nobody learned a single lesson. Also, Wade Watts I am still in your walls and I am plotting for your downfall.

I felt really betrayed by the marketing and title of this book. This had the same characters but was almost 100% a different story all together; contradicting most of the first book. I still loved the ideas presented in this, but it let me down.

I enjoyed listening to this book, but it definitely didn’t capture my attention like the first did. I don’t think it was a necessary addition.
