Stayed up until 5a reading it, instead of going to bed at a sensible time. First time in a long time a book has been good enough to convince this middle-aged lady to stay up all night reading.

This is such a fun and fast-paced book! I was laughing, I was appalled, and I feel like that's exactly what Zibby Owens wanted. I read it in a day because I just couldn't look away, couldn't put it down! The Jewish rep was amazing too! Go into this one knowing you're getting a fun story and you won't be disappointed!

Fun read.  Pippa lives in LA with her husband and two kids, trying to be the perfect mom and perfect wife while also struggling to fulfill her contract to write a second book after her first best seller.  However, after another best selling author announces that her next book will be on the same subject (and with the same title) as the manuscript Pippa has been writing, she finds she finds she cannot write another word.  When her son jokingly suggests she submit a blank manuscript, she sees it as a chance to make a statement about everything that is wrong with the publishing industry.  The author definitely has some ideas about ways publishing could improve- but really this is a fun romp with quirky characters, a very LA setting, teens and tweens who feel very real, some heartwarming references to Jewish culture and teachings, and a happy ending for the good guys (not so much for the bad guys).

I am quite conflicted on how to rate this book. It was an easy read that had some deeper thought-provoking parts about the publishing industry which I enjoyed. There is an underlying message of not judging the lives of others because we tend to put on a good face but no one actually has it all together- except that she gets her fairytale ending, and it all just falls into her lap as soon as the bad parts of her life reach a breaking point, which also happens all at once and she gets immediate gratification of everyone finding out the truth at the same time with no push-back whatsoever. It was just too convenient and honestly, conflicting with the other messages that she seemed to be trying to convey. It was still a good read but there was some definite eye-rolling on my part toward the conclusion.
