What's the worst thing that could happen to a blushing bride?
Left at the altar by her fiancé Jason, Zoe can't stay around the pitying looks of her friends and family. She heads to the US, employed as a nanny by singledad Ryan.
While she quickly wins over his children, her moody, difficult but devastatingly sexy boss is more of a challenge. The way she embarasses herself infront of him - and hs colleagues - doesn't help.
But her colourful circle of Nanny-Friends with fun-loving Trudie, Hippie Amber and chilly, sophisticated Felicity, helps her keep sane.
Until Zoe and Ryan learn to understand each other, just at the same time she realizes that the pasn't isn't easy to escape, no matter how far away you go.
This romantic comedy makes a fun and quick read. It's entertaining, the story has a nice flow and the cheesy romantic parts are interrupted often enough by a lot of embarassing - and mostly hilarous - moments. Some of them were way over the top though.
The characters are real and relatable, at least most of them, most of the time.
I like how Ryan went from arrogant, emotionally detached and permanently angry to the good guy he is but a lot about this also irritated me. How poorly he behaved around his beyond adorable kids, for example.
It made the story but her thinking, how she'll not let him walk all over her but does, how she doesn't set boundaries and doesn't speak up for the sake of these kids, that left a bitter taste.
Then there's her former best friend, who somehow chose sites and chose wrong, her horribly behaving mother, the fat-shaming.
I get that and it's not bad that this book was written this way, with so many people showing their most hideous traights, but it's bad that most of these things never got called out. How can these things not become an issue?
And as much as I could relate at some point I was just so over her obsessing over the idea of loving Jason.
The love letters from Juliet were hilarious (and sad at the same time). And I loved how her talking about her past has a whole different vibe from the funny take on her current situation.
Maybe I'm too critical of such a light read but as much as I enjoyed parts of this, parts of it really hit me the wrong way.

Oh this was such an unbelievable stupid book! 400+ pages and I came out not liking or being connected to any of the characters. The plot is somewhat interesting but the development was half assed, other than one or two "Ryan kissed me like no one else" the relationship between Zoe and Ryan was completely void of emotion, like we didn't even get the minimum of in sights on them and it's meant to be the heart of this story. All their emotional intimate moments were skipped and only mentioned in a throwaway sentence because apparently the author thought we shouldn't be privy to them. We also didn't get insights on the relationship between Zoe and her ex or Zoe and the kids or Zoe and her mom or the mother of the kids. This book is literally 400+ pages of Zoe falling over or making stupid mistakes no grown woman would ever make. You could honestly tell that Jane Costello phoned this one in and that's sad because I've liked some of her other books and I assumed this one would be as good as the others.
I am a massive chick-lit so please believe me when I say this book is absolute shit and not worth your time. It would've been a great read if it had even a little character development or any emotional development or any feeling at all.

I needed this super fun, light read right now. Can't wait to read more from this author - under both pen names
