A well written and intriguing novel. As someone who loves dystopian novels and learning about women's issues, this book was right up my alley - especially since Atwood has said that the events of the novel all take precedents in real world events.

Shows loss of identity, sexism and government corruption in a great way. Has almost everything 1984 has, without Orwell's implicit misogyny.

This was a 5* read for me when I first read it at 16, so it's such a shame that for me this book is..not even close to my favourite Atwood! There's some great stuff here, obviously it's famous for a reason, but there is so much that I feel I WISH was included that was glossed over. Atwood's books are famous for not being diverse, but this book would have infinitely benefitted from engaging with intersections of race/class/sexuality. Really liked talking about this in class.

Pet Theory for this book: The Colonies aren't real!
