Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the lack of an ending. It built up all these characters throughout the story and just left us hanging at the end.

A well-sustained novel that gives a slightly different spin on 1984, in a society that focuses on Biblically-inspired subjugation of women. It stands the test of time much better than her much more recent Oryx and Crake.

There are better uses of my time. I have tried to pick this up multiple times in different formats. It’s just bad.

It tries to say some things that are profound (like the cat being an it), but that’s like 1 sentence every 50 pages.

This society just doesn’t make sense to be that patriarchal after three years.
