i just don't know what we did to deserve maggie nelson's literary style and terrific brain

Loved Jane's writing, but Maggie's take not so much. I think I would have rather read Jane's diaries in full. Definitely not a Saturday morning read—very graphic and depressing.

Like hearing a dark story that haunts you your whole life, and trying to make the memories and your thoughts about it coherent. I wish there was more narrative but I appreciate the way Maggie blends genre as always.

I’m sure we all grew up with the mythos of dead family members all around us, but this is obviously a very different kind of weight that Maggie’s family bore. this isn’t the story of Jane. It’s the story of Maggie exploring/coming to terms with what happened to Jane, and having grown up with some sense of the story, from before she could have even understood it herself
sad (which I’d expected), and, at times, disturbing (which I probably should have expected, but did not)

"How we've fooled ourselves, we who've split blood into that which pollutes, and that which redeems."
All I have to say is this book is incredibly quotable!
My only gripe is the alternating POV's which made the poems harder to grasp
Still recommend this book though!
