This book is great but not as much about food as I thought. It is wonderful don't get my wrong it is just very historical which isn't quite what I'm in the mood for right now.

Maybe more like 2.5, some interesting portions but often the book is much more about the food of the men in these women’s lives, or not about food at all

What She Ate, where to start? Firstly, this told me nothing about the food six women, many intolerable, the others just dull, possibly ate. There was so much promise in this idea. All I could think was, what a wonderful way to look at some of our most controversial and enjoyable F words. To link historical women and the choices they made in food to finances, feminism, femininity.

But no, it’s just a boring rumination on what six equally boring women “might” have eaten while talking more about the men in their lives than their personal menus.

Just a NO from me.

Excellent book, my only criticism is that Helen Gurley Brown should not be at the end. Gosh this is tricky, only Rosa Lewis or Barbara Pym would've made good chapters to end on. HGB was great, but put the dieter in the middle, and leave the rich food for the end. Otherwise I enjoyed it very much.
