This was a super interesting story. I’m not usually one to read historical fiction but I love the real stories influence on this story. Thomas was my favorite, he reminded me of Sherlock Holmes with his quick witted thinking and ability to know everything there is about something simply based on the color of dirt coating it.

5 stars! Everything about this book was perfect- the story, the characters, the style of writing. I loved every chapter of it
at first the writing and unlikeable characters bothered me but then i got kinda used to it?? it got okay but still predictable
I read book two and three before this one, and thank goodness I did, because even though I knew what was going to happen, I scared myself silly and found parts of this one genuinely creepy! These YA novels are quite different to the usual set, in that not only are they historical fiction, but they are quite brutal and blood-splattered at times! I love this series. Audrey Rose is a great heroine, and doesn't annoy me like many fiesty and spirited YA female leads do. I feel that she is a well written and realistic character, who's personality would fit well into an Austen or Bronte world of independent women. And Thomas Creswell...let me count they ways! A brilliant addition to the literary field of dreamboat male leads, a teenage dream Mr Darcy for the millennial set. The historical research behind these novels is clear, and adds to the quality of the writing and the series. It has a lot to offer the discerning YA reader. There is enough credibility present that it allows you to overlook certain, more outlandish elements! I really like the literary references carefully embedded into these novels too. My new favourite YA series.

This is my first book I’ve read from this author and I loved it! I don’t care that she reimagined historical facts because the world she created was so vibrant and perfect for spooky season. I plan on reading everything else she has written now too. Also the romance was cute and a nice break from all the violence in the book.
