What's not to like about Darkseid giving the beats on everyone! Seeing Nubia in action and knowing that it was penned by LL McKinley is an extreme delight!

The Wonder Woman story is emotionally powerful and looks gorgeous to boot. The Nubia story loses a bit of steam, but is still very interesting. This issue is fantastic and the Immortal Wonder Woman arc for Future State is an absolutely resounding win.

Great emotional storytelling by Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad. Beautiful artwork by Jen Bartel. Also a fun little story with Nubia at the end. Also had a great character interaction with Batman where he says she was "the heart of the Justice League."

That first story is quite possibly my favorite of the Future State books so far! I really love the story, it's so heartfelt and beautiful! Diana's character really comes through and the emotional bond within the trinity is so well done! Everything is super clear and the art is drop dead gorgeous!. I knew Jen Bartel's work was amazing but in this book, it is truly breathtaking! I adored everything about this and I can't wait to read the next one!

I wish Nubia's story was a bit more engaging for me, honestly. I love the idea of her taking up the Wonder Woman mantle, but I thought it really odd to center her story in what felt like a really normal, human setting? There are what look like superhuman/meta human characters in the club but I felt like this was something you'd see in a CW show that couldn't afford to set the story in a place more fantastical because of budgetary reasons. Also, a huge chunk of the story just felt like exposition, which was strange because all of these Future State books have to set the scene for whatever alternate future their story is about, so it was just odd.

Anyway, this was really enjoyable for me!

I didn't enjoy this one nearly as much as the first issue.

The first story felt strange, in that it seemed like it should've been a very long one shot instead of 2 short stories. The art was gorgeous as ever, though. Love Bartel's work!

The Nubia story was too wordy, for me. I know the author writes novels, and it's a common thing that most authors going from writing novels to comics just make every text box and bubble way too wordy. Unfortunately, my eyes glazed over quite a bit while reading it.

The first half of this issue is reasonably pessimistic, as Diana must face the end of the world as we know it as per the future. She also witnesses Clark Kent sacrificing himself for the sake of the universe. At the end, Diana is lonely and must make one last necessary sacrifice for the good of the universe. We then transition over to Nubia obtaining her powers and gaining the mantle of Wonder Woman with the help of the African goddess, Oshun. I appreciated that Nubia's origins were given the same mythological weight as Diana's with the Greek/Roman gods. The comic ends with a message of hope for the future, despite the sad beginning. I think this exploration of the future was interesting, albeit atmospheric and at times a bit confusing. However, to an extent I believe that was purposeful.
