all the characters and like 5 different murder plots were too convoluted and at any given point i didn’t feel like any progress was being made because we  don’t get to hear poirots thoughts at any point. i also don’t care about all the side characters entire life stories and that’s literally all was happening. i’m sorry i just don’t think i like british mystery writers

I enjoyed it, but it was a bit hard for me to enjoy the flow of the writing style and the characters dialogues... It didn't feel very realistic?? It was my first Agatha Christie, so I'm not sure if it's the writer for me. Also was expecting more Halloween vibes 🥺

Kind of a hard read. The writing style is a bit sporadic to me which makes it hard to track. There are also a lot of characters that are difficult to keep track of, even towards the end. Poirot’s diction and thinking style also drove me crazy as there was an excess of unnecessary information. The ending did shock me, but I do like books where I can anticipate the ending a bit. This one was unexpected and I feel like the book did not lead you to the conclusion. Only Poirot knew. Also find it interesting how the “Haunting in Venice” was inspired by this when the movie and book differ enormously. I was definitely hoping for something better.
lighthearted mysterious relaxing medium-paced

It's a fun story, a bit of a lark, once you get into the beat of none of the characters, even children, having any human value (because another one is going to be bumped off shortly).

I didn't think I was any good at figuring out who did what,  but it turns out my suspicions were accurate even though I couldn't trace the motive.

It was too bad about the over-the-top revelations at the end.  No one could have reconstructed that on a straight read-through and it wasn't necessary, just less and less believable.

I'm not a big mystery fan, but it was entertaining as I read it.
