I had high hopes for this one. Itโs been sitting on my TBR for a while, and I was excited to finally dive in. It started off really strong, but unfortunately, it lost a bit of spark toward the end.
Chase gave all the classic charming, cocky ice hockey MMC energy, and I was loving it. He played the long game, and I really liked him until about halfway through. His inner monologue started to feel a bit repetitive, and it kind of pulled me out of it, and I never really got that initial feeling back.
Bailey was sweet, but the whole naive โgood girlโ angle didnโt totally work for me. Her level of innocence felt a little off. She had some really cute, funny moments, but there were also times I struggled to connect with her. Add in the communication issues - which were understandable in context, but it just frustrated me.
Their chemistry was great early on. The slow burn had me hooked. But once it hit that tipping point, it dimmed a little. The spice was there, but a bit hit or miss for me. I felt their connection could have been stronger. The biggest thing for me was the length. It just felt too long. The middle dragged with some filler that I think couldโve been trimmed down. That said, there were definitely parts I really enjoyed, and the story had a lot of potential.
Overall, I did like it. There were some really sweet moments, and the plot had its strong points. I wouldnโt reread it, but I can see this being a hit for fans of slow-burn hockey romances who donโt mind a longer read.

So so so bland. This book is the literary equivalent of a melatonin. I have to stop. Itโs so boring.
I like Chase just fine. Bailey is the human embodiment of an unseasoned boiled chicken breast. And sheโs so โจnot like other girlsโจ. Also nothing actually happens. Just a list of pointless dramatic scenes and the sex with no actual point or purpose. No plot, no pace, no purpose. Like a bad wattpad refugee. Cute cover though. DNF at 80%

3.25 โญ๏ธ was this bad, no. It was just 300 pages too long and never ending. The writing was good, and I liked the characters but holy shit no hockey romance should be over 400 pages let alone almost 600. I had the hardest time caring a lot about the romance between these two after the 50% mark as they had already done it 4728 times by then. Will I continue the series yes, but only because the second book is a normal length.
it started off so good!!! then it just devolved & there was so much going on, like too many different plots and ideas thrown into the span of 200 pagesโฆ idk i still thought the characters were cute but also way too many similarities to her other book.. like the exact same idea of car crashes, etc.
this book did NOT need to be 500+ pages
i'm a firm believer than romance books should be <400 books bc anything longer is just unnecessary filler...and this book is a prime example.
while offside had its fun moments, you can't help but feel bored by repetitive conflict and poor pacing. why was the big reveal / major conflict resolution happening at the last 5%? there was no way for us to properly give everyone the ending they deserved.
i picked this one up bc i saw a fun reel for it on instagram (we love a good ex's rival trope), but the plotline was more fun in theory than in practice. granted, bailey and chase's relationship was much healthier than most bookstagram / booktok romance faves so i'll give them an extra star for that (perhaps the bar IS on the floor oops)

It was alright. Too long with some plot points that probably could have been eliminated without altering the story in any way.
