This book came to me in a very unusual way. I was listening to the radio and the Of Monsters and Men song "Mountain Sound" was on. The radio hosts were talking about the story behind the song being a great sound heard throughout the world. They then talked about Krakatoa which made me realize surely there must be books about first hand encounters.
Well there weren’t. This was the closest I could do.
RM Ballantyne was alive when Krakatoa erupted. So while not close physically, he was alive for the social fallout this making this more interesting.
