The story has a promising start and it is nice to see the two timelines overlapping on the same road trip. The last part of the story was more of a let down than a thrilling one. But i have to admit i liked the ending. Not because it was good, but because it was entertaining.

Quit this and then went back. Twisty, but to what end?

2.5 stars - Imo the title should have either been "Risk" or "Lie." The cover photo and title of the book are pretty misleading.

Picture Amy Dunne from Gone Girl, forced to recreate a family roadtrip with her equally conniving and loathsome siblings. That's just an inkling of how perverse and chaotic He Started It is!

I can't say much about thrillers without spoiling them, but holy hell this is such a fun ride and I devoured it in one sitting! You're stuck with a car full of unreliable and unlikeable characters, forever trying to figure out which is the lesser of five evils. It's so hectic and twisted.

I am officially a Samantha Downing STAN!! Definitely a new auto-buy author for me.

After finishing this book I sat in a stupour for an indefinite period of time. I was shook. For the final 15% of the book I don't think I BREATHED. It's safe to say I really enjoyed this thriller. And also hated it in equal measure. For hurting my CHEST

We follow Beth and her two siblings, Eddie and Portia, as they recreate a roadtrip they took with their granddad when they were younger. Once they complete the roadtrip, step by step exactly as it was first completed, they'll inherit their grandad's multi-million dollar estate. As soon as the trip commences, it becomes clear that the siblings are hiding deep secrets from themselves, from each other, and especially from the reader

Our narrator, Beth, is the most unreliable narrator I've ever experienced. And I loved it. I didn't believe a word she said, nor her siblings, as we're told constantly that the entire family are liars. I honestly didn't even try to predict any of the twists, I was just along for the ride, and when they all barrelled at me I was SHOOK

I am now even more desperate to read Downing's first book, My Lovely Wife, and my faith in thrillers has been restored once more

*This earc was sent to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*
