Lovely.

Such a complete story told in few words. The illustrations spoke a lot for themselves.

This is a great book, beautiful images, original and moving story.

Multigenerational story of how the narrator's grandfather immigrated from Japan to San Fransico, then back to Japan because he missed his homeland. Eventually, after the narrator is all grown in Japan, he moves back to the land he heard about in his grandfather's stories: America. But, he, too, grows homesick for Japan. "The funny thing is, the moment I am in one country, I am homesick for the other."

Extra star just for the illustrations.

I loved this book. The illustrations were evocative and sensitively done, and the text was deceptively simple. One for the permanent collection.
