Great illustrations. A simple story well wrought. It says much about our immigrant nation.

I really really enjoyed this book. Short sentences and great story telling that all children will enjoy.

This book made me cry. The illustrations are beautiful and the text tells the story of a man's family and how they came to love two countries. It's interesting that the boy grows up with the Grandfather's dreams becoming his own.

Alan Say uses an economy of words to tell a beautiful story. Grandfather’s journey took him to North America and later back to Japan. The story explores the possibility of feeling homesick for more than one place.

It wasn't what I was looking for as a homeschooling mother. I thought by the description it would be great for social studies but was disappointed.

The illustrations are incredible. Such a poignant story of the author's grandfathers of being raised in Japan, coming to America and his eventual return to Japan.
