I wanted to like this book so badly that I pushed through to the end. There were several typo mistakes and even a few grammar mistakes. I felt like the author tried to pile in a ton of detail in such a short amount of pages that the actual point / conflict of the story was lost. It also got pretty repetitive at times. I’m really sad to say this is probably my worst read of 2022. I hope that the author takes time to re-examine the story and maybe do a rewrite.

Gave up at chapter 4. I almost gave up after the prologue as it was rather graphic and set a very different vibe than I expected for the book. I pushed through a few chapters and it’s just not for me. There’s a lot of telling instead of showing and the dialogue is terrible. The main character’s reactions make no sense and are inconsistent. I kind of wanted to know what happened, but reading a few spoiler reviews confirmed this is not the one for me.

this book was actually a FEVER DREAM.

I am so confused. why did nothing happen until the last 20 pages…? I kept waiting for some insane plot twist but I was EXTREMELY let down. the plot twist was only unpredictable because it didn’t make sense.

the main character was not likable at all. the side characters were okay, but lacked any real depth. the book was easy to read, but honestly it wasn’t very interesting & was VERY repetitive.

• the cult came out of left field - honestly I don’t even know what else to say about that
• ‘kit’, her love interest, was so sus???? why was he literally in love with her after meeting her once???
• the bad guy literally being a random ass side character from the middle of the book that had barely a coupe pages about him????????
• the entire val/renee/john story line?!?! a guy gets you pregnant & leaves so you tell the entire town he’s a predator????
• ALSO why did allison constantly feel like she needed to shoot everyone with her gun??? but then she finally needs it and she it’s no where to be found??????

i’m so unsatisfied with the way this book ended. it literally felt like a waste of time when I finished.

If you've ever watched a Lifetime movie & you run across that one that isn't horrible but not the best thing either, yeah, that was this book. It also didn't help that I skipped to the end & spoiled myself (on purpose). Reading bits and pieces of reviews from those who have read her books before, they said this isn't her best work. This is my first Fern Michaels books so those couple of reviews gave me hope in trying more of her books if I'm ever in the mood to try again. :-)

I picked this up from a thrift store to read on the beach knowing it was going to be dumb. Dumb was an understatement. It was so unrealistic and the “twist” at the end was ridiculous. I almost couldn’t get past the dialogue- no one spoke their own age (if that makes any sense). I shouldn’t have stuck it out- the ending was unsatisfying.

It was an easy read. However, there were so many plot lines crammed into this book. It just became unrealistic.

This book jumps right into events that are thrilling, keeping you turning the page in order to find out what possibly could come next.

The timeline of things seems a bit implausible. The entire book seems to take place in a short amount of time, with the exception of the flashbacks that add a deeper insight into the main character, Ali, and why she is the way she is. The ending seemed to be tied up in a neat little bow, but it left me unsatisfied. There was so much repetition on Ali sticking to her guns on staying on Palmetto Island in her newly acquired yellow beach cottage when more time could have been spent diving deeper into the other characters of the story. Valentina, Rene, John, Kit, Gib and Hal (plus many more) seemed to fall flat.

The writing was clear and the train of thought easy to follow but it won't be a title that sits with me for a long time because it barely scratched the surface of a very interesting plot. I will read Fern Michaels in the future because I found the story entertaining and hope that in any future books the characters and plot are dived deeper into.

I did like the romantic aspect of the book, though it seemed to come out of nowhere. I found it sweet that after spending so much time alone, attempting to stay off the radar, Ali found people to build relationships with it. I wish Kit had made more appearances because he seemed to be an absolute doll.
