Woah! What a great book! I didn’t know what to expect going into this book, had no expectations prior and hadn’t heard anyone else’s opinions before reading it.
To say I was pleasantly surprised by this book is an understatement!
Unlike anything else that I have read, The Prison Healer was a breath of fresh air to read. I was instantly captivated and intrigued in the story, world building, unique setting and magic system. The characters were brilliant and interesting. The plot held a great pace and I didn’t want to put this book down! This book was sooo close to being a 5 stars but I just didn’t get *that feeling* but gosh it was close! That plot twist at the end left me GAGGED and the cliffhanger had me HUNG!! I’m so excited to read the next one (once I get my hands on it- ASAP!)

Update.
Not even a cliff hanger could make me come back to this book. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood to read it and I can come back to it.

A bit slow but overall intriguing. Different storyline than the typical YA fantasy.

I enjoyed reading this book, but it was a little predictable. The second Jaren entered the prison I suspected something was up with him. When Naari kept a close look on him always, I was sure he was the prince and she her guard. I also suspected Kiva to have healing powers, but I was surprised to find out Tilda was her mother. This plot choice felt a little random though. Same with the sudden cabinet full of poisoned drinks that kiva conveniently didn't know about for 10 years. I'll read book two because I'm curious to see how Jaren and Kiva will interact going forward. I do hope kiva doesn't suddenly change character though now that she's revealed to be a rebel.

I read this when I was sick and thus my brain was mush, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. A nice YA fantasy. I liked the setting a lot. Not quite a 5 star for me even though there wasn't anything wrong with the writing. Hopefully my library has the second book :))
