There's much about this book I'm enjoying BUT.
The Stoic the Vast complaints are tired. His son speaks Dragonese and it has helped repeatedly. His son and his dragon have performed heroic feats that Stoic has been thrilled with. I get the stories need a starting point, but yawn.
And, seriously, would it kill to have female characters sprinkled around more liberally? At least we have Kamikaze and the occasional Big Booby Bertha. But Valhallarama spoke something like five words in five books and then we read about her death.
(Note: listening to them all the time while on road trips)

Read for 52 Book Club Challenge #33 A banned book.
I initially looked at the many books banned by countries around the world - a real eye opener - but decided to listen to this one, set in a Viking world where all books are banned as being "dangerous" and are kept in the Meathead Public Library, where they are guarded by the Hairy Scary Librarian with his deadly Heart-Slicers, not to mention Driller Dragons.
The book is a lot of fun and wears it message lightly, but concludes that books "can save your life, they really can..."
"You, dear reader, I am sure cannot imagine what it might be like to live in a world in which books are banned.
For surely, such things will never happen in the Future?
Thank Thor that you live in a time and place where people have the right to live and think and write and read their books in peace, and there are no need for Heroes any more..."
Thank Thor indeed for the Hairy Scary Librarians who in this age do stand up for these rights - unsung Heroes of our Time!

Looooved the epilogue on this one. Still a great lesson today.
I'm gonna go ahead and count this one as done. We've been done for a while, except for the dragonese dictionary. Overall the book is pretty much like the others- some funny BBB parts!
I'm going to be a bit biased with this one because I'm a librarian and this one is all about the hairy, scary librarian and the library. The author really has a great imagination and the fact that this entire book takes place in one day on Hiccup's birthday is even crazier. One of the more enjoyable and entertaining ones in the series!
