This is a less good Love & Other Words, but I still loved it.

3.5. I was going between rounding up to a 4 or down to a 3 star and I think it’s a lower 3 star.
This is like “the summer I turned pretty” or “summer sisters” because each book focuses on a summer book, friendship and friends to lovers. I think summer sisters was a lot better because there was friendship elements and coming of age elements so it was a lot deeper. The concept of this one is more like “love and other words” and “people we meet on vacation”, because both involve best friends then something happens so they don’t talk for years. I think both of those books did it better too. The big thing for me was the now was just like 2 days and the rest was in the past. The past was much more interesting.
I do think the writing was good for a debut and I loved the Canadian cottage country vibes. I’ll definitely pick up the next book Carley fortune puts out.
