I love all of Emily Henry's books and loved this one! It held darker themes than a lot of her others, and stuff I wasn't expecting, but it just added depth to a well-rounded novel. It's a brilliant and nuanced look at grief and losing a parent, and how it can impact your world view. The characters were brilliant and as always the actual romance was đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„. I especially love her dialogue between characters!

i was so pleasantly surprised by this book tbh. girl it had me kicking my feet giggling tee-hee-ing
..

pros: very sweet romance, miss henry did a good job of getting me to buy in to the characters and why their personalities were the way they were. january’s Character Type also was never downplayed or taken less seriously (something i feel that happens pretty frequently in the genre), which i appreciate. the sexy scenes were sexy and fun. also ok i know it’s a romance and that the character development isn’t necessarily the point, but january’s whole arc was well done imo and i believed that she could end up where she ended up at the end. also liked that gus wasn’t just a nick miller type, which could easily have happened.

cons: ok girl the writing was soooo cringy at some places. like ok did our audience switch and we’re writing for middleschoolers now kind of cringe. those lines weren’t everywhere but now and then i’d be rolling my eyes lol. the story also pretty heavily relies on january’s inability to not jump to conclusions and the miscommunication trope which is my least favorite thing in a romance. also girl miss henry you are a writer how do you make the books these two are writing sound soooo corny and uninteresting.

altogether though this was a fun book that i’d definitely read again. and it was my first emily henry that i’ve read so idk if this is normal for her or w/e but i liked it!

i enjoyed this. i was scared that finally reading emily henry, it wouldn’t live up to the hype but this was a really lovely love story.
i loved that they were writers and they spent the plot trying to write in each other’s genres, whilst both trying to work through their own grief. despite all of this they grew and changed but became perfect imperfect versions of who they already were.
the spice was pretty good and there was some pretty writing in there too. it was a quick and easy read, with emotions but not heart-wrenching.

it was a little too close to home and heavy for me personally as reading is my escape and i wasn’t really expecting it BUT it was amazing otherwise i felt like gus and january were with me while i was reading it and their fears were relatable and made me feel a little less alone

It's a good book. It is a cute story. The main character, January, she's a bit dramatic and self-centered. She's an only-child, so I guess she is a really well-written only-child. I just didn't really like her all that much.
I enjoyed the book overall. I think it does read like a "first book." I read Book Lovers and it's got a similar feel to it, but it reads better IMO.
I was invested in the story, I wanted to know what happened to January and Gus. I enjoyed the tid-bits about the books they were writing as well.
Okay ending- or maybe I just don't like happy endings... *winky face*

This spoke to me. I read a lot of fantasy and unrealistic fiction. This was refreshing. Grounded in real life emotions and experiences and humour. The final few chapters didn’t deliver as much as I’d hoped but I will be reading this again. Highlighting and annotating the humour and spice and most importantly the emotional and philosophical reflections.

I would say overall this book was good! I really enjoyed it, and definitely cried at some parts. I definitely didn't like the 'typical' parts where the girl assumes the feelings of the guy. I get why she did that, etc, but it's just hard to read. I feel like I've read it a million times. I would recommend this book to people that like 'grumpy-sunshine' tropes or 'rivals-to-lovers' (sort of, it's more like misunderstood rivals-to-lovers or one-sided). It had good writing, there are a few good quotes that I really loved that the writer includes during parts where the MC is being introspective. I would say that this story is more of a good one rather than an okay one, was a good read, but was predictable. And I kind of didn't like the ending either.

My rating system:
5 ⭐ = Great story, loved it, would definitely recommend to everyone
4 ⭐ = Good story, enjoyed it, worth the read, would recommend it to people that like this genre
3 ⭐ = Okay story, some predictable parts, it was fine
2 ⭐ = Lame story, boring, kept losing interest
1 ⭐ = Terrible story, couldn't finish

it’s always books with the silly little cartoon character covers that end up shattering your heart. what a feat of the genre.
