How did this book manage to move the plot even faster than the first one and, most importantly, why, will remain a mystery to me. I absolutely despised the fact that the author basically dropped the bomb in the last 2 chapters making more story progression than the rest of the book did. I really liked the beginning, how tense everything started to become with all the rumors of revolutions and rebellions but when the new Games were announced and it all started to gallop and I lost the track of plot (and interest). This book was also way more gory than the previous one which is not exactly bad as it sets up the tone but sometimes i thought was unnecessary
My main problem with this book are the author’s new way to end every chapter on a cheap cliffhanger that basically gets resolved on the next page and the main character. Katniss turned from a quirky traumatized overthinker into a straight-up annoying ass. Her love triangle drama was really hard to read like girl make up your mind (and choose Peeta). In the Games she did not do absolutely anything smart that I should’ve prolong my respect to her for as I did in the first book, all other side characters (shout out Finnick) basically did all the job. Now she knows she’s the symbol of the revolution and it’s going to rise her ego up to the skies
I really hope the pacing will improve in the last book, because otherwise I will be really disappointed. And yeah, I am definitely not the target audience for this but oh my god Suzanne you had it all don’t lose it

Forget what a tortured soul she is, absolutely phenomenal reread.
Still an amazing book. Usually the second book in a trilogy is the weakest, but this book is still amazing. I revisited this book via audio book and I absolutely loved it. It’s filled with action and anticipation. The characters are amazing and I think a lot of the side characters shine brighter than our main ones in this one. Johanna and Finnick are gems. I really loved seeing how the hunger games have impacted the last victors. While they all were successful in surviving, it seems like that all they were truly capable of and are still “surviving” as the psychological impact of the hunger games is far greater than fathomable.
