Y’all. Y’ALL. DON’T SLEEP ON PORT MACABRE. This book wasn’t a trip, it was a whole journey. I haven’t read spice that spiced that hard in a looooong time. But there’s so much more than just smut here (thought there is A LOT of smut…like, a lot a lot). These characters are unique and individual, something I need to fall in love with a why choose romance. I need to easily and instantly recognize whose POV I’m reading, and these boys (and Poe, of course) deliver.
There’s sweetness and heartfelt moments in their romance, even with all the darkness that surrounds and lives within them (and there’s a lot of darkness). Don’t skip the content notes for this one if you have triggers. This dark romance sits somewhere between lighthearted dark (think Necessary Evils by Onley James) and pitch black. None of these men are irredeemable (despite what they think) and they’re all extremely lovable and likeable assholes.
As for Poe, she has one moment where it seems like she’s going to step up and be a bad ass, but she’s a born and made subby little pillow princess to her core. She’s fierce about the men she loves, once she knows she loves them, and forgives easily (maybe too easily, sometimes).
The plot is interesting and this could so easily be a plot-heavy story, but the MCs enjoy sex a bit too much for that to happen. It’s a storyline that holds up under casual review, though it largely serves as a backdrop to drive the romance and spicy scenes forward.
**If you don’t want them getting busy in some way every few chapters, this isn’t your read.**
I give out 5 stars far more often than I give 5 chili peppers. That rating is HARD to come by for me (pun intended). I need the smut to be varied, it needs to be quality, detailed on an emotional and physical level, k!nky, complex, and spine-tinglingly memorable. Poe and her gods understood the assignment.
Pretty sure this book ticks most of the boxes on a dark romance tropes & microtropes reading challenge. I’m not going to list them all because I don’t do spoilers, but just know…if there’s a kink you love reading about, it’s probably going to show up somewhere in this book. Poe’s men are filthy, just the way we like them.
I absolutely loved this. One of my faves of the year so far, easy.
I recommend for fans of Tate James, Emily Rath (for relationship dynamics; this book is far darker than Rath’s Pucking series), and similar.

Im always thankful to be chosen, but especially glad to receive a book from the E.R. team :") While i did receive a digital arc for free, i also chose to purchase the audiobook to read along with! very worth it, amazing performance.
As a non-dark romance girly, i loved this book. I loved this book way more than vengeful gods, actually. This particular book had less dub con/cnc in it than vengeful gods, and im almost positive thats why i enjoyed this more.
There were certainly parts that i had to pause to collect myself, or to just push through, but for the most part, this was awesome. Even with those scenes, Rose does a good job at writing them...in a respectful way? Thats the only way i can think to explain how it felt. Please understand its a high heat dark romance book, mmfm, etc. Lots of sex scenes, before ppl complain about that 😂 Read the triggers first before diving in because you get literally everything with this book you would expect. I knew what i was going to see getting into this, and just accepted that i LOVE elliott roses' writing so much it would be worth any moments of being uncomfy i faced and i was super correct on that.
Poe was lovely. She was strong, determined, never came across as weak minded or any other annoying trait i often find with girls who are thrown into secret societies or mafia type settings. I loved her so much. Her men were also so delectable omg. I was almost crying when we saw the messages from Angel 😭 I think Poe's men were more down bad for her than in the previous book, which i love. Who doesn't love a pathetic man in love lmao 🧍♀️ Total touch her and die vibes, and then actually just following through. I loved observing and learning the love languages of all of her men. They truly loved her so much.
My only wish was that we got some type of sword cross between Hawke and Grey
beyond the slight scene we had , but honesty what we did get.... was still fun. Also the 🩸 scene... awoke something in me. I cant explain it.
Its really hard for me to say more about the book without gushing spoilers, but what i will say is check out some of the spoiler free comments/reviews and give this book a chance! Even if you dont really like dark romance, if you want a spicy book with some down bad men.... this is for you.

I couldn't have loved this audio more. The narrators brought these characters to life and made you feel as if you were in the scene with them. With each cadence and rhythm of their voices you were able to feel the tension in the characters voices and get a feel for everything going on.
Posey, Angel, Hawke and and Grey are my new favorite foursome and I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL 💀. These 4 are like no other dark Romance quartet. They are the ones that set the bar for all the others that are or could be.
All four of them are ride or die till the end 💯. They have brought the spice 🥵 and turned the heat 🔥 Allll the way up with their scenes. When you have 3 hot AF men like Hawke and his stunningly handsome face, Grey and his raspy voice along with his abs for dayyyssss, but also Angel and his whole demeanor and hot AF 🔥 🥵 body. Angel doesn't even need words for you to feel what he is saying. You just get the vibes he is throwing your way. I felt them through my kindle and I was like YES DADDY 🫠🫠🫠🫠.
But we can't forget about beautiful Posey. She isn't just a beautiful face, she has the spunky attitude to go along with it. I love that she is a take no shit type of woman. She fits in well with her men.
This book was a Rollercoaster of darkness that I never wanted the ride to stop. I couldn't stop reading when I needed to. My husband found me with my kindle in the holder and page turner in hand asleep 😴. Y'all I wasn't trying to miss anything!!!
