Hmmm…I finished this book about a week ago and I feel like I’m still processing some of this book.

I was a bit discombobulated with Macabre Gods as it’s the second released book in the Port Macabre series, however it’s set before book one and in a way, spoils a plot line from book one.

I felt like this was essentially the same story as book one, with the MMC’s swapped around. There’s the quiet/silent one, the cheeky loveable one, and the one ‘in charge’ and the FMC who was loving a simple life in the metropolis is taken/forced into living with the MMC’s.

There were a lot of unanswered plot lines for me, and even after reading both books, I still don’t understand the whole concept of The Anguis and what power they hold compared to the Households.

The sexy scenes were incredibly detailed and delicious and I enjoyed those the most

Ugh, Angel has my heart. That sweet, mute, gentle giant sure knew how to tug at my heart strings. He was the perfect caretaker and protector of Poe. Whenever he silently communicated with Poe using gestures indicating that his heart was hers I melted. His relationship with Grey was sweet as well, they looked after each other.

Grey is very charming for someone who goes by the name butcher because of what he does to evil people. He has a soft side as well and would do anything for those he loves even though his been physically scarred in the past and unable to grasp love anymore.

Hawke is the alpha who seems cold and distant but he’s really just trying to save innocent lives and protect those near and dear to him. Once he opened up and allowed himself to indulge in the chemistry they all shared he was finally happy. I enjoyed his dirty talk and ability to set a group scene.

Even though they all form a close knit bond as time progresses, there’s this doom that they know is coming because she doesn’t belong to them. The build up to it was great and it showed just how far each of them were willing to go for one another.

If you love why choose books, I think you’d enjoy this one and the secret society aspect of it.

Return to Port Macabre, indeed! This foursome was exactly what I needed from the long-awaited second full novel to Vengeful Gods. Without giving any spoilers, there are so many emotions, tortures, and push/pull dynamics that we have come to expect from Elliott. Poe, Angel, Grey, and Hawke are the perfect completion of each other, but they don't understand it. This is the best picture of slow and fast burn due to the complications from the beginning. It's a big story with character development and even more detailed look at Noire House than we have seen before. Wow.

ARC REVIEW
What was this? This book gave me so much anxiety; honestly, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. In the beginning, I was prepared to hate them, but then I discovered it was a misunderstanding, and I was so relieved.
Each guy loves her in their way: Angel, her protective teddy bear; Grey, our butcher—without his pushing and egging everyone on, they would still be too stubborn to admit their feelings; Hawke, the one in control and protector; and last but not least, Poe, the glue that holds them all together. I wish I could hug all the guys for what they went through. We might not have gotten a backstory, but the hints were enough to pick up on it.

That book was a chunky baby and worth it. Going back to Port Macabre was a real experience. I love how the scene was similar and at the same time completely different from the first book. We’re still at Noire House but the stakes are different in a way, Poe is dragged into this universe that she doesn’t know and doesn’t understand, all of that because she caught the eye of the some high people of the Angus, now she has to be initiated.

Poe was living a boring and normal life, trying to survive most days, she would have never thought that her night at Noire House would bring her back there under some tough circumstances ! Our Poe had in rough, I wasn’t expecting that, it caught me by surprise but then I loved how the plot unfolded.
And sweet, sweet Angel, he was the delicacy of this story, with his own dark past, his mistakes, his guilt but damn how he is with Poe, it’s just everything. Also loved Grey because he’s kind of twisted but at the same time, he doesn’t shy away from Poe and what he wants. Apparently, I have more trouble with the Calliano’s men, still like Hawke even if his character didn’t touché me as much as the other.
The dynamic of this story and all of them is amazing and I’m beyond curious to know what will happen in Port Macabre, for sure I love them new characters are introduced and I cannot wait to see if something is done with it.

If you love book 1 or if you haven’t read it yet, be ready for some MMFM and all the h0t written as intense as always by our dear Elliot Rose, her plume is never wrong for this !!
I would recommend reading the trigger warning carefully and also reading Noire Moon the novella before as it is in a way the prologue to this book.

I received an ARC Copy of this book from Luna Literary, this review is from my own thoughts 😍

Sweet lord help me, save my soul from these Port Macabre men. Amen.
I was so f*cking excited when I received notification that I was accepted onto Elliot Rose’s content team - and after reading Vengeful Gods, I was so thrilled that this was my first ARC read with her.
These books are LONG. But I never felt bored - it kept me on my toes the entire time.
As if I need anymore book boyfriends. I’ll take the lot of em. All three, please and thank you. Specifically... I need Angel. Sweet tortured soul baby Angel. It’s insane to me how much someone can bring to a story without having any actual dialogue - I also love that the people who love him adapted to have their own language. His chapters were some of my favorite ones because I loved the insight.
Listen, there were some twisties in this. Some of them were to be expected... but others?! I was left mouth agape. I love Poe, she’s a slutty little resilient badass and I want to be her when I grow up.
As was the way with Vengeful Gods, this is a very spicy book - but it also plays into the plot quite a bit. I mean, a secret society sex club? It’s gonna be spicy. I love when the two work together perfectly. These four captured my heart. I very much enjoyed seeing the softness in Poe’s men that seemed to come so naturally for her.

Holy shhhxt, I absolutely loved every damn second of this book. Being back in Port Macabre was everything I had hoped for and more! After catching glimpses of Poe and her men in Vengeful Gods and then devouring Noire Moon, I already knew I was going to love these four - but calling it "love" now feels like a gross understatement. Witnessing Poe's journey within the Anguis and the intricate, often brutal evolution of her relationships with these three men was nothing short of mesmerising.

The kink aspect alone cements Macabre Gods as my favorite Port Macabre book so far - a shocking revelation considering how Vengeful Gods has long held the top spot in my heart for any and all dark romance. Elliott Rose knows exactly what she’s doing, expertly wielding her words like a weapon, leaving me breathless and begging for more. *fans self weakly*

But beyond the scorching heat, the plot is so immersive. It’s raw, relentless, and riddled with the kind of gut-wrenching moments that claw at your soul - both from the main foursome's harrowing pasts and the grim realities they now face. The twists had me anxiously chewing my cheeks and lips, while the spice had me biting them for an entirely different reason.

Then there are the characters themselves…

Poe. Oh, Poe. What an absolute b a b e. The way she held herself throughout this entire book - especially at the start, considering the traumatic shit she endures - is nothing short of admirable. She is strong, courageous, and constantly pushing herself to uncover the truth, never once letting her guard down, even as we, the readers, could clearly see that her men were hopelessly ensnared by her.

Daddy Hawke. Oh me, oh my, that experienced dom personality had me hooked from the start. The way he so clearly cared for Poe, gently initiating her into their world while still battling his own desire to keep her at arm’s length, was torturously sweet. What I would give to be a sub under his care...

Grey, The Butcher. The mouth on this man could reduce me to a puddle in seconds. His filthy words, the way he so effortlessly pushes Poe into a desperate, needy mess, is envy-inducing. Especially when he plays with her breeding kink. It is so hot. S O HOT. And the period scene? I nearly died. Holy mother of all things dark and divine. Elliott Rose, you are a GOD. The contrast between Grey’s violent, dangerous nature and his soft, utterly smitten side when it comes to Poe is just *chef’s kiss*

And then there's the star of the show, the man who stole my heart and made me melt with every single one of his POV chapters - Angel. The fact that he couldn’t speak, yet he and Poe forged an unbreakable bond, was so achingly beautiful. Watching them create their own silent language, carving out a space just for the two of them, was pure magic. Angel is the sweetest giant, and his quiet, unyielding love for Poe made my heart ache in the best way.

Hawke and Poe? Stunning.
Angel and Poe? Beautiful.
Grey and Poe? Gorgeous.
Angel and Grey? Ughhhhhh, my god - I don’t blame Poe for wanting to see them together.
Angel, Grey, and Poe? My heart... I didn’t know if I was going to survive it.
ANGEL, GREY, POE, AND HAWKE?!!! I’m gone. Unreachable. I’m floating in the clouds, and you may never see me again.

Macabre Gods is so darkly intense, deliciously sinful, and utterly unforgettable.

*disclaimer, reading Noire Moon is crucial to this book!*
If dark(seriously check the trigger warnings!!), why choose, villian gets the girl..and each other, torchered souls who find each other, found family is your vibes. Buckle up butter cup! Welcome back to Port Macabre where polyamory is the norm in this secret society underbelly and your desires rule all.  Whilst there was a lot of dark tones to this book, I will say I’m really grateful for how this author approached everything, from the gruesome back stories (both those alluded to and those we got more details from) of our men to the adjustment period of this new world and even the end of the big bad. She really gave us substance along side our filthy smut. Such a good read that I had to literally tear myself away from in order to not finish this in one day flat.  With that being said, I do wish we had gotten more insight into the houses and how the played role with each other, especially since Poe has history with one that is barely mentioned. It did feel like I was missing something now and again as I was reading. So I wish there was a map or something to help keep it straight.

I’ve come to love @elliottroseauthor so since discovering her books. And while I am a small town cowboy queeeeen (hint to go check out her other series as well cowboy 🤠) she also has some of the best darker romances out there too (back to the belle of todays ball 💀)

This series is dark and mysterious and hard hitting and steamy (so steamy lol) - it’s a why choose, secret society, dark romance all wrapped into a pretty blood red bow 🤣

In this one, we are back in Port Macabre and back with Poe, Angel, Grey and Hawke. We met them in Noire Moon, which is a novella in this world! I 100% recommend reading that first. It gives a lot of background and a solid foundation going into this one.

Elliot has a way of writing both dark and steamy romance that somehow still have super sweet and tender moments and I think that’s why I end up loving her books sm 🤣

Once again, her big, tall bearded, man bunned man of my fav but who’s surprised.. not me lmao

Posey had the night of her life in the novella, but after a tragic moment, she’s now stuck with these 3. Of course, we have Throne’s blue-eyed twin, Hawke 👀. Grey is more like Ky when it comes to humor 😂 but just as tatted, dangerous, and yummy as Ven 🔥. Angel is the silent Viking (my heart breaks for him 💔). Hawke is definitely Throne’s twin (complete asshole)😈.

This isn’t as smutty as VG, but God, which Calliano should I choose? Hawke or Throne? 🤯 Oh wow! I had a feeling a certain someone was involved! Elliott definitely gave them the ending they deserved 👏. I hope the next book is about Emerald! 🤞

Make sure you read Noire Moon first and check the TWs ⚠️. You don’t have to read Vengeful Gods before or after this to make sense, though I highly recommend it. It’s so filthy smutty! 🥵🔥

This is my honest opinion on the gifted copy of MG. Thank you, Elliott and Luna Literary, for this amazing opportunity! 💖
