I feel like this book had a lot of promise but I felt like I was reading the Tattered and Torn series all over again 😭 it was a pretty quick read and I loved the podcast aspect and trying to connect the dots. I didn’t expect the twist at the end, I had my sights on another character. I did shed a couple tears for this one, I can’t even imagine losing a twin and never knowing what happened. I am glad it’s a standalone, I feel like it was wrapped up nicely and got a happy ending for everyone where it didn’t feel rushed.

Catherine is obviously one of the best at romantic suspense and the way she can keep us on our toes, always guessing with all the twists and turns. But this story specifically really stood out to me for how brilliantly this was plotted. I loved that even when our heroine was in trouble, she wasn’t a damsel, she was the one trying to get all the answers.

When Ridley had a personal experience with something bad happening, she began a life of trying to uncover the truths. Her podcast Sounds Like Serial has become really popular and she has come to Shady Cove for her next assignment. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy to have her dredging up the past. The town sheriff is one of them and Colt makes that very well known. But they keep getting thrown together anyway and eventually are working together. I really loved the progression of Ridley and Colt’s relationship. They ended up making a great duo to get all the answers.

4.5 ⭐️ i love catherine cowles and was so excited when she announced she was coming out with a true crime novel featuring her classic romance style. this was such a fun story to follow and, like all mysteries, had me on my toes trying to figure everything out. as usual, i was very wrong about the perpetrator. i was shook by the unsub reveal. i love ridley — she’s such a badass and did such a beautiful thing with her life to honor her sister. i loved her dedication to living fully and not letting fear lead. i know this is a standalone but i hope one day CC returns to shady cove so maybe we can get emerson and trey’s story!

This was one of my favorites of the year so far. The complexities of the mystery, the love story, the emotion... The ending had me choked up and that really happens when I read.
