“How foolish to think you can tell your children about yourself before they're at least fifty. To ask to be seen by them as a person and not as a function. To say: I am your history, you begin from me, listen to me, it could be useful to you.”

Complicated, unhinged portrait of motherhood and marriage. Like I looooved that crazy lady - she made so much sense. The thing about how daughters meet their partners and then are like fuck my mom, he “remade me better” - insaaaaane.

Had high hopes for Ferrante after reading her Neapolitan novels, but I jsut never really loved this. It reminded me of the worst moments of the Neapolitan novels with none of the redeeming aspects.
