While I enjoyed reading this, I do wish that Dahl's "bad guys" weren't so over-the-top bad. It's like he hits you over the head with their badness at every possible turn. Still, I love that he created a character like Matilda. What book lover wouldn't?

It should be rated higher, but I saw the movie first when I was a kid. The movie and the book, while very similar, are still different enough that I cherish the film more than the book. That being said, I’m glad I read it. I still loved it. It’s just as cute a story as the film, despite the differences.

I reread this one with my five year old daughter. Always a delight.
