The internalized misogyny in the Jimenez books I've read have officially put me off any of her stuff now. The fact that she cannot write any side female characters that aren't referred to as "crazy" or "bitches" is too much to be forced to slog through. The Lola character and the way every other character talks about her made me cringe at first and then just finally pissed me off. The fact that she was compared to Lohan who we know now was exploited just makes it even more clear that Jimenez has some stuff to work through when it comes to women.

If you're a fan of romance, you'll love this! Jimenez does a great job capturing the feeling of falling in love, especially when it catches you by surprise. I appreciated the timeliness she chose for Sloan and Jason's relationship, it was fun seeing so them in so many different settings and stages. I balled my eyes out during many points. I'm still thinking about this book, and I probably will be for awhile!

A wonderful book where two creatives are brought together by a crazy doggo.
Strangers to lovers, second chance after strains on a relationship. This book is so well written. The romance itself so wholesome.
Dealing with themes of grief and also lying to protect others are dealt with alongside developing communication to be good together as a couple. I love this book and would definitely reccomend

Another poignant story! This one balances the light the and heavy that comes with life. A hopeful story that unfolds about our FMC finding love after loss.
In this book we get to see Sloan's character be fleshed out as well as meet Jason. Kristen continues to be a central character and I was happy to see her and peak into her life after her "happily ever after". Josh unfortunately sort of faded to a side character, I was hoping to get to know him better from the outside since their book really focused on Kristen.
I enjoyed Sloan and Jason's character development and complicated and nuanced reactions to real relationship barriers (not everyone is a rockstar but jobs have been known to transfer people or require travel).
This book got emotional reactions out of me such as- smiling, laughing, and crying.

Well... it was definitely better than The Friend Zone (https://app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/90f78ed5-d681-4e16-be7f-d4b650bff02d). I liked Sloane a lot as a strong-willed, creative, determined-against-all-odds MC. This book also explores grief and unexpected young widowhood pretty well, all things considered. I had mixed feelings a lot of the way through about Lola's presentation and stereotype (misogyny!), but I think this ultimately ends in a good place without simplifying how either Lola or Jason experienced it. There's one random crappy homophobic conversation for like, no reason? Which I think stuck with me because it highlights a lot of my vague issues with sexuality, sex, and gender in these books. To a lesser extent than The Friend Zone but still to a noticeable extent, Jimenez simply cannot figure out how to really write fairly balanced, feminist cishet relationships in the way I think she thinks she is.

First and foremost, I love the title of the book, especially with the context of the story i.e Jason being a musician. As a music enthusiast, I also appreciate the song recommendation for every chapter, and that they’re not just random songs but actually have something to do with that particular chapter. I will surely check them all out.
Other than that, I don’t really have much to say about the story in terms of positive comments.
It was very poorly paced, to the point where it felt draggy and some parts (especially the descriptive parts) seemed unnecessary. Every time I thought I’d covered a large portion of the story, in reality it was merely 5-7%. And every time I end a chapter (the chapters are also very long by the way), I felt like I had to mentally prepare myself to start on another one, as opposed to excitedly going in headfirst to see how the story progressed.
The characters weren’t particularly loveable to me either. At first I thought Sloan was, but when I found out she has tattoos and that she cooks animals her late husband hunts, it was so unheard of to me that I just found it hard to relate to. Jason kind of fit the bill as far as (I think) musicians go but his undying love for Sloan and the issues that arose with it kind of made him a whiny baby to me.
Plot-wise, it was a bit hard to understand. I have very basic knowledge on musicians and the lives they lead, especially when they’re on tour. Like, what is headlining versus opening? Does the whole entourage not go with the musician on tour? Like why is Ernie sometimes the one with Jason, but other times it’s Zane or Pia? What is the difference between these people and their roles? And most importantly, do they even really care that much about the musician’s love life to meddle?
The only part in all this that I really liked was when it was revealed what was really going on with Lola. I really hated her at first, but after finding out it was her label that’s slowly killing her, I felt sorry for her. She ended up being the only character that I truly liked, aside from Tucker. The fact that they’re only side characters really says something.
Kind of disappointed since other people seemed to really like this book and that’s the sole reason I picked it up but maybe it’s just not for me.
