This book was so good! Like, it was great! I expected maybe something a little dry, but informative, but Johanson did such a good job of making everything come to life. I felt like I knew the people he wrote about. He captured their personalities in a colorful manner. His trips to Ethiopia were suspenseful and exciting. His relationship with the different Ethiopians was quite sweet at times, even when his group was approached by people they worried were hostile. I learned a lot about the process of dating fossils and the history of paleoanthropology, and the multidisciplinary cooperation of different scientists required to get the best results.

Their field expeditions reminded me of the excitement I had as a kid, thinking I'd be a paleontologist.
