Decent thriller. Kept me engaged. Would have given it 3.5 but then read that the author was actually the youngest Canadian climber to summit this mountain so bumped it up to 4

This was a good time. Nothing spectacular, but I liked learning about mountaineering, and I don't regret picking it up.

This book was good, but I just had a hard time loving it. Like other reviews have said, I was expecting a lot more thrill from this. It's very thorough on the ins and outs of mountain climbing which is great for those interested in the hobby, but I really wouldn't have minded less realism of going up and down and up and down, clip in, clip out, clip in, clip out, and more of the terror I thought this book would have. I had a hard time sympathizing with the main character. That being said, I read this book super quick and was thoroughly entertained, it just wasn't what I was expecting from it.

I didn't hate it, but I honestly thought this one was just okay. Like it was fine. Just fine. I wasn't suspended on the edge of my seat over who was killing everyone on the mountain. Eh... I could take it or leave it at this point.

This book should have felt slow, but I didn't find the pacing an issue because I was enjoying the parts about the mountaineering - especially knowing that the author was the youngest Canadian woman to climb Manasulu. The "thriller" part of this was a bit lacklustre. There was a bit too much foreshadowing in the early stages which made it feel a bit like a YA book (which the author normally writes). So in all, really enjoying the stuff about the mountain, climbing, acclimated, etc., but the thriller pieces was a bit juvenile.
