THE ENDING. especially the extended epilogue.

SPOILERS
the trauma of religion is so real. The sex work is so real. The abusive relationships are so real. The ableism is so real. The ending made me choke up a little.

Another great book by the amazing Emily McIntire! I really wasn't sure if I was going to like this book since the Hunchback of Notre Dame has never been one of my favorites but this book was AMAZING! The love story between Cade and Amaya was so raw and pure that I absolutely fell in love with them. I also enjoyed that Quint was neurodivergent and that Emily McIntire brought awareness to how those individuals tend to slip through the cracks in society.  I can't wait to see what the next book in this series will be about!

Do you ever just read something and think "why did I do that to myself?" This was that for me. I loved the author's previous books in this series, but this was honestly painful. The underlying plot was so much more promising than what the story was. I dully understand the concept behind this series, and the main characters being villains, so the story is supposed to be dark. But this was just horrifying.

The characters were 2D, the writing was often repetitive and clearly lacked proofreading with the amount of grammatical errors and repeated words, the way that Amaya's emotions were basically disregarded by everyone until the last 100 pages or so was honestly baffling to me even for a dark romance.

this was so f*cking twisted & honestly gut wrenching at times, but i ended up really having a good time. but the gasp i let out at the like 85% mark— the way this started out made me not sure i would like it, but it ended up being one of my faves of the series!! i’ve never seen the hunchback of norte dame so i know i didn’t pick up on any of the little easter eggs/throwbacks to the story, but i still had a fantastic time! i can’t wait to see what’s next from this series 👀
