I first picked up this book several years ago in a Barnes & Noble in Naples, Florida while on vacation, purely because the cover caught my eye. I flicked through a few pages, decided I didn't really need to spend all that money on a hardcover, and ultimately put it back on the shelf. I continued to spot the cover in various bookstores over the next few years, but while I always admired it, I never bought it. Finally, last year I ducked into a secondhand bookstore to kill some time before meeting friends for dinner (remember meeting friends for dinner?), and of course, what did I see but this book for a mere $10.
Well, fuck it, I bought it. And I'm so glad that I did. A highly amusing tale of "Auntie Poldi" and her misadventures in the pursuit of justice and romance, with lots of asides on Italian culture. I'm very much looking forward to the next one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted "mystery" book with it's quirky characters and a wonderful sense of place. We'll be reading the next two in the series, to find out what else Auntie Poldi is up to.
Entertaining but overhyped. Also a bit strange at times, with the nephew narrator and all.
Not a series i will continue. The MC is obnoxious. The narrative meandering and full of extraneous detail which makes it very difficult to know what is going on and if I never here the word Namaste mangled in this way again it will be too much
3&1/2 stars A fun mystery set in Sicily without the typical stereotypes. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and will probably read more in the series. I appreciated Giordano’s descriptions of setting- cafes, towns, markets. It allowed me to reminisce about my own visits to Sicily.
An easy read, with minor crime elements but a lot of quirky characters. The crime/mystery part in itself is not very exciting, but is novel and the highlight is the beautiful Italian (Sicilian) milieu that the author conjures.
