The book started slow for me as I was confused by the narrator at first but once I realized it was the nephew telling stories about his aunt, I could settle in and enjoy it. Not as fast paced as other cozies I’ve read but I liked it more than expected and look forward to reading the next in the series.

If you’re looking for a funny, fast-paced novel with wit and heart, this one’s for you! This wonderful book is set in Sicily and the main character is a larger-than-life German woman who captures the reader’s heart at the outset. I throughly enjoyed following Auntie Poldi’s romantic and crime-solving escapades and I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!

A fun Italian mystery but there was something about the writing style that I didn't love.

Everyone should have an Aunt Poldi in their life! This Sicilian mystery series sits squarely between the Miss Fischer series and the Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency. Enjoyable.

3.5, really.

Goodness, this book was long. Or seemed overly long, at least. It was entertaining enough that I never quit, but not interesting enough for me to sit down and read the whole thing. I kept it on my Kindle all summer and would read a few pages here and there in waiting rooms and such. (It didn't just seem prolonged because I didn't finish it for 3 months - it read really long. Each time I finished a chapter I wished it had been about half as lengthy.)

I would give 3.5 stars. Fun mystery that read kind of like Murder she Wrote.
