Magical story set on the Scilly Isles. It has adventure, a backdrop of World War 1, brilliantly drawn characters and tales of a curse.

Interesting story and premise, well-written as is always the case with Morporgu!

Classic Morpurgo tale of friendship in the face of adversity.

No one lives there, so you'll have only the terns and the black rabbits for company. You'll be quite alone.

Such a beautiful bittersweet book - I'm so glad I finally read it, and know it will stay with me for a long time.

Im sad its over! (hah)
Michael Morpurgo's books always feel like a bit of a cozy blanket, and this one was no different. The environmental story telling pulled through with allowing an easy imagination of Gracie and Daniel's home. The story is told through Gracie's eyes, and is quite slow at first but does a good job of setting the stakes and setting right before going headfirst into the climax of the story.
It's a fun and relaxing read over all, and perhaps my only complaint is that the whales came in too late (yes I'm going to be petty about that. The narwhals on the cover had me all excited shh) but that still doesn't take away from its charm. Catch me rereading this the next time I can't find a suitable enough fanfiction to drone through during exam season.

It's a cute story. Although the Birdman is a heart-wrenching character.

I never knew this was a middle grade read until I revisited it. I really enjoyed this read and how brilliantly the adult topics within the novel were approached. I will definitely be revisitng this Authors works again in the future.

My favourite character in the novel was Birdman and the way he is described and the things that happen through this read made me emotional.
