"Over the past two weeks I've discovered that in this city of millions, you are one of a kind."
This was such a cute and entertaining read! It's ideal if you want to go for a cozy Halloween read or even if you want a funny romcom.
The characters are truly lovable. I loved reading not only about Cassie and Frederick but also about the people around them - Reginald being the icon that he is gave us some of the funniest, laugh-out-loud moments. Frederick being the vampire version of Mr Darcy was not something I knew I needed but I'm so glad I got. He started as clueless about modern society and the modern human world and, by the end of the book, had managed to learn so much while still maintaining his unique personality.
I loved Cassie's determination and passion for all the things she loves and the way she went all out for those she cares about. She handles things quite rationally all things considered and I loved how independent she was.
I think what this book did well, especially following certain revelations, is that it was clear that Cassie's right to make informed decisions and the way she would proceed with them was entirely up to her. Until the very end, it's her choice. Which yes bare minimum, but I loved that.
"I will see you at home eventually. With saucepans."
I have SO MANY favourite scenes, between the shopping trip and the social media training or the post-its and letters (p.s. how dare you attack me with THAT letter moment). However, the saucepan texts were iconic, I was laughing throughout that entire exchange. As well as all texts between Frederick and Reggie.
The only reason why I didn't give this 5 stars was that towards the ending, things got slightly over-the-top for me personally. At least given the tone of the story until that point.
P.S. 2: You're telling me we're getting Reginald's book next??? YES PLEASE.

Frederick is one of the sweetest heroes I’ve read, so out of place in the modern world and he’s so romantic.
Also really liked the epistolary elements - lots of letters, texts, lists and diary entries which help to tell the story.

A cute, fun vampire rom-com to slide into spooky season with.
Characters: 0.5; FMC noticeably more developed than MMC, fun side characters
Plot: 0.5; silly rom-com plot that suffered from an oblivious FMC and low stakes at the end
Pacing: 0.5; decent but with a rushed ending
Writing Style: 0.5; fun, approachable style
Vibes: 1.0; the note-writing and text/email conversations were hilarious and my favorite parts, I still have the urge to sign my texts off with "yours in good health"
Spice: 2.5; vanilla with a vampiric twist. When the spice does happen, the vampire MMC takes on a much more dominant, intense personality than he was previously characterized as having, similarly the FMC becomes much more submissive. Both seemed out of character, but the spice was still good.

The title is quite confusing for a British audience – I'd assumed they actually shared a room, but actually they're more flatmates than roommates.
Two things that did really irritate me:
1. The texts and letters were completely unbelievable throughout; they read like spoken dialogue and were never convincing for written language. For example, near the beginning Frederick writes in a handwritten letter "Not... Exactly" – who writes with ellipses like that on paper?! Let alone someone from his period, who's trying not to act suspicious. This kind of thing ruined my immersion in the story whenever there was a letter involved.
2. Following on from that, the author clearly did not research the historical period Frederick is from. She keeps saying he looks like he's stepped out of a Jane Austen novel, but the way she describes his clothes (suits and wingtip shoes) is more like early 1900s fashions, i.e. a century after Austen's time. His speech and style of letter writing also didn't feel convincing enough for the time.
