I don't suppose I will ever truly finish this book. This book is one for the ages to be looked at on snowy days, to be poured over on rainy days, smiled over on sunny days. The artwork is fabulous, and the words match the illustrations.
The pictures show nature truly as it is without metaphor or simile getting in the way. The potraits of the animals and plants make you look at them more closely bith in the book and in the wild to see if that's what they are really like.
A great book.

Mixed review for me....
The illustrations are stunning....the text grabbed me at times. However, since the book is supposedly inspired by a words removed from the Oxford Children's Dictionary I was expecting a book that discussed this, at least in the preface or afterwords. How language changes over time is fascinating, but these words have NOT disappeared from our language. I was disappointed also that there was no information about the natural world in which the pictured creatures and plant live. If the premise is that "children are no longer in touch with the natural world," this book does nothing to inform children about the natural world, except by looking at the beautiful pictures.
So...5**** for the illustrations. 1* for the text/content.
