read harder challenge 2021: read a book of nature poetry

This is a beautiful, immersive audiobook.

Beautiful book and illustrations.
relaxing fast-paced

Beautifully immersive, possibly not for everyone I imagine, but a wonderful listen in particular.

Listened to the audiobook. There is a poem about Herons here, making this book an automatic win for me! Although I would like to read the print version as well, so that I can see all of the illustrations that accompany the poetry.

This is such a beautiful book, honestly I didn't really care about the poems, but the illustrations were just breathtaking.

Beautiful and magical.

A few years ago the editors at Oxford University Press decided to remit words describing nature for words about technology from the junior dictionaries. There would be a new generation of children who would not find words like “fern” or “acorn” in their dictionaries. Lost words is an invitation for young and old alike to enjoy the 20 words that were removed, such as “adder” and “wren”. The illustrations are a celebration of the English countryside, of poetry in nature and the words we use to describe it. If you don’t close this book appreciating the poetry and wonderful illustrations, you will at least understand why we hold on to those ancient dictionaries.

As described, a beautiful homage to the wild things more familiar to children in former times. The watercolor illustrations are particularly soulful.

Lovely artwork, ok poems. The audiobook with sounds of nature as a backdrop is a nice idea and works well.
