The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, the poetry is fantastic and reads aloud well, and combined it is indeed a magical book.

The Lost words is a collection of beautiful and thought provoking acrostic poems, using nature words that are sadly less commonly known by children nowadays, by Robert MacFarlane. These are accompanied by Jackie Morris’ most exquisite watercolour illustrations of animals, plants, flowers and seeds. Absolutely stunning and a very worthy winner indeed of CILIP Kate Greenaway prize 2019.

Beautiful. Simple, beautiful poetry for children on the lost words in nature, like acorn, raven, wren, accompanied by stunning watercolors.
Love the implications and concepts of this, losing language, especially that related to nature, is a travesty. Although it’s so short, it’s hard to count it as a “book” vs a short story - this was wonderful!! The 47min audiobook had an AMAZING soundscape that really transports the reader, and felt like a meditation for me!
