okay so fdjlkadfjasl i have very Very Very mixed thoughts about this book.
i liked the plot, i thought it was an interesting story. that was basically the positive side of how i thought about this book. the plot is actually nicely built (in my opinion) although the pace is slow and it doesn't really feel like anything is happening up until the very end when The Plot Twist happens. the beginning isn't that slow, and i enjoyed that but then it just.... s l o w s d o w n and it's frankly a bit boring.

on the other, negative side i did not really vibe with the way valentine (and basically all other girls and women) were written. her only purpose was to hype up ender because she was 'mild' like all other girls and she could calm him down or something. and i know it was like 1980 something but the amount of slurs could've also been a bit less in my humble opinion.

aside from that there was also the fact that ender was written in a really lazy way. he didn't want to hurt people (that was like his whole personality trait because he doesnt want to be like his brother) and then he ends up hurting people anyway and breaks down and yet it does not do anything for his character development. because guess what. THERE IS NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

the same with peter like he's shown to be some weirdo who hurts squirrels for fun and then it turns out he's not that bad but he is but he isn't AND THERE'S ZERO EXPLANATION for it. like sure he's jealous or whatever but i personally think it's lazy writing to Not include any backstory at All.

anyway, mixed feelings.

The most terrifying thing about this book, as with any dystopian novel, is that this future or these actions are entirely too possible.

Made the mistake of trying to watch the movie and then I was legally obligated to reread the book. As such, this is like my 9th or 10th reread and it’s still just as good as it was the first time. I adore the battles, I adore Ender’s slow descent into exhaustion, I adore the adults being bitches, even Peter and Valentine’s subplot has really grown on me as I’ve gotten older.

Just a fantastic book. It has an energy that I’ve never gotten from another story.
