😭😭

I did really enjoy this book. Ruined it a little bit because somehow I read Ender’s Shadow first back in middle school, so I knew the big twist where it was never a game at the end, but that didn’t keep this book from being enjoyable. Felt bad because there was a lengthy author’s note at the end where he’s cautiously optimistic about the upcoming movie. Poor guy.

I liked the whole adults control everything and always change the rules aspect. Felt real and similar to about any point in our lives, not just as children. A little tiring that the monsters weren’t the real monsters after all. We as a society should put a cap on that trope at 1 per genre per year.

This book is however one of the few times where the medium I first encountered it is not my favorite. Usually book first means I like it more than the movie and vice versa, additionally true if there’s a video game. However this time I read a sequel and then saw the movie and I really think this book beats them both. Card has been one of the stronger sci-fi writers I’ve read and though I’ll admit that could just be a reflection upon me as much as it could be upon him, I still feel strongly enough to recommend this to anyone.

Goed verhaal, interessante kijk op oorlogsvoering. Wel af en toe voorspelbaar. Maar de moeite waard
