I liked the OTP in this novel almost from the beginning; however, I found the heroine's romanticism and the hero's cynicism tiring. Balogh seems to do a really good job at beating a theme into the ground. The best moments were when he would open up about his life or when she would just let go and feel. I'm glad that the subplot was pretty minor, although it was kind of entertaining (even though I hate the "shrill older relative" trope a little). I'm still interested in the Huxtables, but I'm not sure this author will be a continued one for me.

No doubt it is entertaining, and I am positive I will continue with the rest of the series, but the whole "wager" thing was annoying me. And for the first time I was actually irritated, to the point that I almost wanted to put the book away. That is a rare feeling for me, and therefore only 2 stars.

My main source of irritation? Did not care much about heavy lidded eyes. Kate seems amiable enough, but the Baron? Couldn't care much about him...

No more Huxtables for me right now... I know Meg still needs a guy, but am sure that in a few months that story would entertain me more than it would right now... Balogh overload!

These regency romances of Mary Balogh's are so enjoyable. Well-written, amusing and pacy, they make a terrific comfort read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel as expected since I read about Jasper in 'At Last Comes Love'. Katherine is right in describing Jasper as absurd. One of my favorite pairings: hero with an outrageous sense of humor and a heroine who can give as good as she got. The first wager was a totally unfortunate plot point though as I can't condone such a thing. The only thing that made it ok though, for me, is that Jasper stopped. Oops, spoiler!
