Batcat is a funny little graphic novel about the titular character who enjoys spending time by themselves. But when a ghost suddenly shows up at their door and decides to take up Batcat's space, which causes them to go to the local witch for help getting the ghost out.

During Batcat's adventure, Batcat meets both a group of cats and a group of bats who tell Batcat that they aren't 'bat enough' nor 'cat enough', which makes Batcat feel bad. But, when they meet a group of griffins who are also 'more than one thing', Batcat starts to feel better.

This was a cute story with a positive message. It is apparent that Batcat is an allegory for non-binary individuals who don't feel much like one or the other.

I thought it was so cute that Batcat is non-binary. And they made friends! I will now be singing the jingle in the book, and looking forward to the next instalment.

I'd thought it was a metaphor for being mixed-race. True, Batcat uses they/them pronouns, but presenting them as half cat, half bat doesn't really fit. NB people aren't "half girl, half boy," they're their own thing. Still, this was very cute and funny, and gender is a spectrum, so I'm sure some queer kids will see themselves in our feline-pteropine friend.

Batcat is just trying to live in peace when suddenly a ghost starts haunting them. Determined to get rid of this pest, Batcat goes on an adventure to get ingredients for a spell so the local witch can banish the ghost.
This is one of the cutest and sweetest things I've ever read. Batcat is told that they're not cat enough, nor are they bat enough. But it's okay to be to be neither one thing nor another. It's okay to be more than one thing. It's okay to be who you are.
This was written by a nonbinary author and I love the enby message it sends.

Batcat is a great graphic novel about a little pink Batcat who is trying to get rid of an ice cream stealing ghost. While gathering ingredients for a spell, they run into bats and cats that make them start to question themselves and if they are good enough.

The pictures are adorable and the story is important; be yourself no matter what others tell you. Batcat finding their identity as the wonderful them that they are is something that not just kids but adults need to learn and remember. This is one that would be enjoyed by anyone, from beginning readers and beyond.
