I've loved this book since I first read it as a child, and I come back to it every now and then as an adult. I love how L'Engle emphasizes uniqueness as strength: "like and equal are not the same."

I know this book was written in a time when the fears of communism were rampant in the world, forced sameness and the death of the individual. And while A Wrinkle in Time is essentially about that, L'Engle spins those fears into strengths that a child can understand. I always finish this book feeling hopeful and glad of my uniqueness. I hope you do too.

Not going to rate as this book is written for children and is quite dated as well - but I enjoyed it. It's not my favorite middle grade, and it has quite a religious bent, but it is still beautifully written and I identified with Meg so much! Impatient and awkward and smart but unable to just do what she is told. Argumentative and disobedient.

I believe IT is supposed to signify communism, but it feels oddly appropriate as "IT", or information technology, during our current AI conversation.

Quick and snappy, A Wrinkle in Time has just enough sci-fi absurdism to be entertaining but still understood by children. Due to time, the dialogue feels a tad bit stilted and goofy, but in a charming way. I also think it's nice to get a female protagonist that isn't brilliantly smart, instead of the usual smart girl bookworm you find leading so many other middle grade and children's stories.

Baby's first sci-fi with a simple theme: love conquers evil. All of the characters are a fascinating combination of grotesque and beautiful that I can't recall any other children's novel including — I'm inclined to say that effect is unique to L'Engle. It's a great, surprisingly nuanced novel that I'd recommend having in any children's library.
