I thought the premise of this book was a lot of fun. We got a carnival that felt a little medieval with the ball and the fighting arena and it really made for a fun and interesting setting as it was mixed with modern technology. The execution on the other hand was a little bit of a miss for me. I think I would have liked it to be a bit longer, as there was some really interesting points that the book touched on but immediately had to move on and had no chance to explore.
In saying that I really liked the Lenora and Ramanu as well as some of the side characters that we got to meet. They all felt different from one another which made the world feel more lively.

I think this would be a great read for those who want a quick and short story that doesn't get too serious. It was a fun read and I would check out the Deal with a Demon series.

Lenora trusted the wrong man—in her moment of vulnerability, he betrayed her and stole a precious family heirloom. Desperate, she summons the bargainer demon Ramanu, only to learn that the demon’s terms are too steep. She could banish them, but having Ramanu as a backup plan is an urge she can’t ignore—the Shadow Market is a place as dangerous as it is tempting. They might think they know what awaits them, but they’ll both get more than they bargained for.

This was HOT. Lenora and Ramanu’s chemistry simply crackles from their first interaction, and the spicy scenes left me breathless. The diversity and representation is especially strong, with both MCs presenting as pansexual, in addition to other gender diverse and queer characters. Robert handles both sex and sexuality with incredible tact, bringing a surprising sweetness to such a tense and heated narrative. Although this is the shortest story of the series so far, both plot and character development are impressively thorough, and I felt a strong connection to both Lenora and Ramanu, along with being truly invested in their romance, despite the brevity of narrative time. This is definitely my favourite book within the series so far!

I think this one is my favorite of the “Deal with a Demon” series.

I really liked the sexy bargain and the three day trail run. I didn’t care about the plot so much - with trying to get back her Amulet…. It felt very arbitrary, and with that steamy final sex scene I  couldn’t help but feel like they were wasting their last day with all of the nonsensical violence. However. I’m a sucker for that insta love trope - and the trans love interest, chef’s kiss! So glad the adventure concluded happily, and that Ramanu and Lenora got to fall in love.

(Also this book has so much kinky sex, I LOVED the play of dominance and submissiveness. And the pegging scene! Very few romance novels go there!!! I’m so glad this one did. Holy shit. It was perfect! So sexy!)

I live for the moments when Katee Robert gives us plot because theirs are always so good. The banter, the one-liners, the relationship development that isn’t super dependent on the smut are all fantastic. This one is absolutely one to read because Ramanu and Lenora are great characters that not only grow individually but grow together without being creepily codependent. The story is absolutely a quick slice of life with a peek at the end of what comes or came next, which is a format that really works for Robert. AND we get the best child-free by choice characters and development! Lenora and Ramanu aren’t made to change their minds or thought of as less because they’re not continuing either of their lines.

Overall, I liked this the most out of this and the other series that discusses these characters.
