Accelerated Reader has this book listed as being for middle grades, or readers in 4th to 8th grade. They also have listed that this read is worth 1 AR point.

I struggled with this one. I love Minecraft, like LOVE it. Maybe I was spoiled by reading Max Brooks’ novel first, but this one fell short for me. It’s more of a beginning reader style book that is written with middle school themes (girlfriends, bullying, etc.). It does contain kid humor and is probably fairly funny for middle school students. It also introduces many of the Minecraft characters, so anyone who plays Minecraft may enjoy seeing the characters, especially if they are beginners. For me though, it was a little too hard to get through while enjoying it. Definitely a quick read if you need one though.

Caution Notes*:
Mild bullying, decomposing corpse talk (cartoony), middle school themes.

Recommended for:
Reluctant readers who enjoy games such as Minecraft.

Summary:

-Do not read past this point if you would like to avoid spoilers-

Zack the Minecraft zombie goes through about two weeks at school. He tells us about his friends and his enemies. He talks about the dreads of having zombie parents, having to deal with his rival at school, and how he really wants to date Sally Cadaver. At the end of the day, his human friend Steve helps him the most. Who knew zombies and humans could be friends?

*Caution notes are not to say, don’t read the book. I only include these so that those individuals who have particular themes they do not like to read about or are not ready for their kids to read about are aware. I do not support censoring. :)

Umm. Really didn't understand. I read this in the hopes to understand more of the game, and I just... don't understand

Plot or Character Driven: A mix

Read this book with my 6 year old and he loved it. We were cracking up at some parts and just had fun reading it. I'm hoping he'll be able to pick it up in the near-ish future and read it himself as well. It's not a difficult read at all. Would definitely recommend this to any Minecraft fans out there!

This book was actually pretty interesting. Would recommend for those looking for an easy read.

My son brought this home from the library. We read it together in less than an hour. It’s silly, funny, entertaining, and choc full of what my wife assured us is ‘boy humor’.

Great for anyone that loves Minecraft. Read it to my son and I found myself lost in the Diary too!
