I turned the pages a lot because of unnecessary descriptions. No development of anything. The one star was because I liked the cats. Lot of mistakes too..
I thought this was a good start to what could be a very interesting series. I liked that the author allowed the cats to act like cats, even when exhibiting their magical abilities. I like that their mysterious abilities were not yet explained too. The mystery itself was very well done and the end was plausible but not obvious, so that I did not foresee it. There were hints of some very witty, humorous writing, although not enough - perhaps that part of the author's voice will get stronger with subsequent books. I'm really looking forward to the next one.
This is -- again -- exactly what you would expect a cozy mystery about a librarian who has cats with magic abilities to be. It's charmingly written (though I wish some recipes were included).
I stumbled upon these books while at Powell's bookstore here in Portland, and decided to buy them immediately. Not because I'd heard of them or the author before, but just for the novelty that they were books about magical cats who solve mysteries. In fact, I half expected the books themselves to be terrible; but, boy, was I wrong!
The author has a very light, humorous, and consistent voice. The characters are all interesting and believable. And, the mystery itself was well put together! I expected the plot to be highly predictable and the murderer to be obvious, but I was still guessing at suspects and red herrings until the moment the true killer was revealed.
Curiosity Thrilled the Cat was a very fun read that I'd recommend to anyone looking for a cozy mystery! :3

Another cat mystery and to be honest I just love these. I'm glad I decided to start Kelly's series from the beginning after reading a few of the more recent novels. I really like the main character Kathleen and the other residents of charming Mayville. These may be murder mysteries, but the town is so charming that they always feel like a nice, little break from life.
Although this is the first book in the series, it is the third book I have read. Turns out the relationship between Kathleen and Marcus starts off s-l-o-w-l-y. Also Marcus is not that much of a detective in this book and Kathleen isn't as observant as she is in the later books. The cats were, once again, the best part of story, along with Roma, Maggie, and Oren. I liked learning that Kathleen did not always accept the cats magical abilities (Own can disappear and Hercules can walk through walls). The storyline once again centered around a town festival, leaving me with the impression that this small town in Minnosota doesn't need much of an excuse to party, lol. I did not get much of an impression of murder victim before his untimely death, so I did not care much after he was killed; however, I did like that fact that the killer was long-time resident and not an outsider. It was nice to see where the series started.
Really cute book. I appreciated the way the cats actually were magical in this book -- it's appropriate for the series title. Also, it's a refreshing change to have real magical cats instead of the special-but-normal cats in the cat mysteries I've been reading lately.
About mid-way through the book, the heroine witnessed her cats being magic and seemed to be in denial; once she got out of that phase, I enjoyed her a lot more. The secondary characters were fun, too. One issue I have is that there seems to be an attempt to force a relationship coming in future books, so I'm not sure I will continue with the series. (Luckily that part didn't start until the very end of this book.) I may try the next one and see how the possible relationship is handled, but it's made me wary of the series.
(I might give 3.5 stars if that was an option, but since it's not I'm choosing to round up.)
