The most boring LMM book. Maybe not as bad as Jane but oh my I was bored silly.

This is the type of story that I love from Maud.

The story follows a young girl, Pat, who lives on what she considers to be a very special and magical farm that is called Silver Bush. Pat adores her family and never wants to grow up and leave them or this special place.

We get to see Pat grow up. She makes dear friends along the way. She learns that letting go of people, even when she loves them very much, is a hard part of growing up. What made this one so special to me was the relationship between Pat and Bets and Jingle. Love and relationships all have their twists and turns, and experiencing it all through Pat's eyes was endearing.

It is heartbreaking and heartwarming, and in the end, I cried no shortage of tears. It's one of those reads where you can feel the emotions brewing in your chest, and the aching pain when it ends. Pat is my second favorite lead character next to Anne.

girl why in the world did i mark this as read with a rating when i have never actually read this. help what was i doing

I finally read the last two LM Montgomery books, both about Pat of Silverbush. I really liked these. I guess it might be that she wrote them as she was getting older and more reflective on life, youth, and coming to terms with the aging process.

What an absolute shocker: I fell in love with more L.M. Montgomery characters.

I’d be lying if I said I was drawn in by this book from the very beginning. While I enjoyed the first few chapters, the reading slump I was in plus the fact that there is basically no overarching plot in this book left me with little to no motivation to read. Once we met Hilary, and then Bets, I was hooked.

Pat reminds me a bit of myself, so of course it was incredibly easy for me to sympathize with her.  As is the case with many L.M. Montgomery books, it was a joy to watch Pat grow up and experience all the changes that come with adolescence.

This book really was a bit of a rollercoaster in terms of emotional experience (I had to try very hard not cry just as much as I tried not to laugh out loud — this is why I really need to stick to reading alone in my room), but isn’t that a marker of a great book?

Since Pat will be my age and older in the next book, I’m especially excited to read that one. That said, I’m so so happy to have read Pat of Silver Bush. Honestly, I don’t know if I could ever pick a favourite between Anne, Emily, and Pat. I love them all.

5/5 because of course it was.

A girl falls in love with a house. Will the boy-man who adores her be able to win her away from Silver Bush? We'll find out in the next book, I expect.

Otherwise, this was super cozy reading, like a warm hug of a book. Dark, difficult things happen, but Pat has Silver Bush to comfort her, as well as the indefatigable Judy - who seems much more of a caregiver to her than her own parents, though she loves them.

A bit too cozy were some of the names - including a friend named Jingle, a sister named Cuddles, and a dog named Snicklefritz was over the top, in my opinion. But as always in Montgomery, there are wonderful descriptions of the PEI landscape encompassing stories of the kind of close-knit but not always harmonious community that seems all too distant nowadays.

As for comparing Pat to other heroines, her one ambition is to care for her favorite places and people, her only talent is to love ... and as that is her choice and her passion, there is nothing wrong with it. In fact, surely we could use more of that kind of passion in the world.

I enjoyed it over all and the writing was very well done. Alas Anne is still nearer and dearer to my heart. It just felt to me like Pat was missing something.
