It's LM Montgomery so it's comforting, lovely, warm, and familiar, but Pat is a total dud compared to Emily and Anne. Her best moment is when she stays with Hilary during his mother's visit, but that's not enough to sustain two books.
I understand that not everyone loves Pat, but I love Silver Bush, and the landscape and atmosphere that fill the book.
This was a very slow starter for me. I struggled to be engaged, despite how funny Judy Plum was. But I finally was able to stick with it and to enjoy its beauty and its sadness. As Judy would say, I'll never be the same again!
L.M. Montgomery is a long time and all time favorite author of mine. She writes the perfect girls story with just the right mix of adventure, drama and happiness. I find her books a comfort to read and have re-read most of her works many times over the years. They are classics for a reason and that reason is they are great. These are true comfort books for me and books I enjoy re-reading again and again.
3 1/2 stars. This was pleasant read, and mostly very sweet, though I have to say it's not my favorite by L. M. Montgomery. Maybe at a different stage of life I would have been able to connect more with the love of staying in one place and the horror of change. Jingle was probably my favorite part of this book, and it's too bad he wasn't in even more of it.
As you'd expect from the author, there's no kind of explicit content, but I probably wouldn't recommend this to very young readers because of the many references to ghosts, witches, occasionally murderers, and the like. There's also some processing of death and grief in this book and a smattering of flirting, kissing and the such like.
