There is just something about this book. As someone who usually hates books that drone on about the fighting side of a war, I really found myself gripped in this one. The repetition really bought me back into the poetry mindset, and I think the book was well-paced and even though I knew what was going to happen, I found myself stressed, excited and on the edge of my seat. I am really looking forward to the Odyssey.

This book has been on my "books to read" list for a while. Thanks to a challenge from my library (and the recent popularity of The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller) I decided to move this book up on my list. Going in I had no idea what to expect. All I knew about the story is that there was a war on Troy due to a woman named Helen and that somehow Achilles was part of the story. Honestly, even going in with no expectations, I was very disappointed. None of the characters were likable and the story did not move forward at all. Pretty much the whole story was people fighting against each other for no other reasons than pride and/or vengeance. Which side was winning was entirely dependent on how the Gods, mainly Zeus were feeling that day. That being said, I listened to the audiobook version of this book and it is beautifully performed/read by Dan Stevens. I think that his reading is the only reason I made it through the whole book. (I am adding a star just for his reading).

this was so unexpectedly entertaining and i even cried quite a lot at the end lol.
it did feel a bit repetitive towards the middle but because it’s narrated so differently than what i’m used to i can’t really complain.
i mean can i even rate this?😅 it’s a privilege among itself to be able to read this story which was written so long ago, i’m glad i read it :)
